The Scammell Pioneer was a British 6x4 tractor used in the second war as a heavy artillery tractor, recovery vehicle, and tank transporter. Pioneers purchased by the British army were equipped with a 1-2 BHP Gardner 6 cylinder diesel engine. the production of the tank transporter begun in 1937, although the prototype had been built already in 1932. the tractor was equipped with a longer chassis and extended cab to accommodate the tank crew as passengers, and larger rear wheels than artillery tractor and recovery vehicle variants. initial 20-ton pioneer trcu20 trailer, then 30-ton pioneer TRMU/TRCU30 tractor and trailer combinations were delivered in both cases with the trailer fixed to the tractor. hinged ramps were used to get the tank onto the trailer, which could be pulled on with the tractor unit's winch (trcu30 standard and "gooseneck" trailers), but the initial 20 ton used system of jacks and removable rear bogies to load or unload tanks. pioneer tractor/trailer combinations remained in production throughout the war, 459 unit produced in total.

Scammell Pioneer är en brittisk tung lastbil från andra världskriget. De första kopiorna av denna bil gjordes 1927, och serieproduktion utfördes 1927-1945. Ungefär 3 400 exemplar av detta fordon producerades under dess gång. Drivningen tillhandahölls av en enda Gardnem-dieselmotor med 102 hk.
Scammell Pioneer utvecklades ursprungligen som det primära transportmedlet och artilleritraktorn för brittiska trupper stationerade främst i kolonier. Fordonet var lämpligt för terrängbruk, det kännetecknades av hög rörlighet, hållbar fjädring och avsevärd dragkapacitet. Flera versioner av denna bil skapades under produktionen. En av de mest producerade var artilleritraktorversionen (Pioneer R100) och det tekniska assistansfordonet (Pioneer SV1T och SV2S). Det fanns också en traktorversion för skadade tankar med en lastkapacitet på 20 ton (Pioneer TRCU20) och 30 ton (Pioneer TRCU30). Scammell Pioneer-lastbilar genomgick sitt elddop 1940 under kampanjen i Frankrike. Senare tjänstgjorde de även bland annat i Nordafrika (1940-1943).
